    Health sector priority for prevention of diseases – President

    President Maithripala Sirisena says future plans for health sector will pay prioritize attention on strengthening of prevention of diseases.

     

    He said, accordingly the services of the Medical Officers of Health and Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) will be strengthened through providing additional facilities.

     

    The President was speaking at 82nd Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors Union, held at Nelum Pokuna yesterday (22nd Aug.).

     

    “Though the government made a comprehensive investment to strengthen the treatment units by providing required physical and human resource, the funds allocated for prevention of diseases is not adequate”, he pointed out.

     

    He said it is essential to strengthen the sections which prevent diseases to build a healthy nation which is a main index of the country’s development.

     

    The President said PHIs are officers who are in a service which is admired by the people.

     

    He appreciated the service of the PHIs who execute their duties even amidst insults and harassments by some people. He also commended their service during the recent disasters and in the issue on garbage.
