According to the results , Pasanda Yapa Abeywardene the son of Deputy Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena who contested under the UPFA ticket, has obtained the highest number of preferential votes from the Matara District,  with the number standing at 76,870 preferential votes.

Chandima Rasaputra comes in second with 70509 preferential votes while Sarath Yapa Aeywardena is placed third with 47,090 preferential votes.

Chathura Galapatthi contesting under the UNP ticket has obtained the highest number of preferential votes from the Matara district for the UNP,with 27, 930 votes.

Jinadasa Kithulegoda secured the highest number of preferential votes for the JVP in the Matara district with 6173 preferential votes.

Ranjith Munasinghe who contested from the Democratic party from the Matara district has obtained 6690 preferential votes.
