President’s Australia visit begins today Featured

    May 23, 2017

President Maithripala Sirisena on an invitation from Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull will leave for Australia on a three-day state visit today (23rd May).

This is the first invitation that Sri Lanka received from Australia for a state visit. In 1954, former Prime Minister Sir John Kotelawala visited Australia on an invitation from the Government of Australia. It was an official visit.

The seven decade long bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Australian were strengthened during the past two years. President Sirirsena and Premier Turnbull met and had discussions at several international events during that period.

During the President’s visit, he will pay special attention to attract investments from Australia and to improve the bilateral trade between the two countries. Several MoUs will also be signed.
