    NIBU Vesak Celebrations under President’s patronage

    President Maithripala Sirisena was the Chief Guest at the Nagananda International Vesak Festival organized by the Manelwatta Nagananda International Buddhist University (NIBU) yesterday (13th May).

    Nagananda International Vesak Festival celebrating Lord Buddhas Birth, Enlightment and Parinibbana was held at the NIBU for two days.

     

    President Maithripala Sirisena who visted the temple first engaged in religious observances

     


    Then President Sirisena unveiled the 'Shila Pavura' where the 'Dhamsak Pavathum' sutra was inscribed. It is in front of the 'Thiloka Shanthi" statue.

     


    Addressing the gathering President Sirisena said that people’s good qualities are being overtaken by money and power. Therefore, he commended the work done by such institutes.

     

    Executive Director of NIBU Dr Bodagama Chandima thero and the Vice Chancellor of the Mahachulalonkon University Thailand Professor Dharmakoshajhan thero also made two speeches.

     

    Buddhist Books written by Professor Deegalle Mahinda thero and Dr Gamini Kariyawasam were presented to the President.

     

    Most of the theros who came from foreign countries presented commemorative plaques to President Sirisena.
