    President emphasizes importance of preserving ola books

    President Maithripala Sirisena chaired a meeting on implementing of a proper program to preserve ancient books written on ola leaves in the temples across the country. The meeting was held on 3rd May at the Presidential Secretariat.

    At this meeting the President directed officials to hand over a report on the program carried out by the government in this regard. He also directed them to include future plans new ideas and proposals about this preservation work.

     

    The importance of preservation of all ola books which are currently with traditional indigenous doctors also was emphasized during this discussion.

     

    The ideas and proposals of the representatives of the Archeological Department, Department of National Archives and the Central Cultural Fund were taken into consideration.

     

    A decision was taken to implement the relevant program after discussions with the scholars in the field.
