During the meeting it was discussed in detail regarding the progress of the projects being carried out in Polonnaruwa district as well as regarding the future plans for the district.

The special attention of the President was drawn towards the projects in which problems have arisen while they are being carried out. The President also emphasized that the objective of the development projects should be to alleviate poverty while giving equal opportunities to all. He stressed that when implementing these projects, the officials should identify the areas that should be given priorities.

President Sirisena appraised the officials ways to improve economic standards of lives of the people in the process of achieving development goals. He added that this objective could be achieved by developing the human resource as well as the physical resources.

After participating at the Special Coordination Committee Meeting, the President made an inspection tour to see the development workbeing carried out in the district. During this inspection tour the President instructed the officials to take steps to re-cultivate the abandoned paddy fields.

He also reviewed the development work of the Kaduruwela Town and the Market Place. The President further instructed the officials to expedite the construction of the Market Place and to vest it with the public as soon as possible.
