    Vietnam President praises Sri Lanka’s journey towards development and reconciliation

    President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Tran Dai Quang while praising positive initiatives taken by the unity government headed by President Maithripala Sirisena aiming at national development and reconciliation assured their fullest cooperation to fulfill the future expectations of Sri Lanka when he met the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

     

    The meeting was held yesterday (17th April) at the President’s House in Hanoi. He added that PM Wickremesinghe’s visit to Vietnam renewed and strengthened the friendship while taking the bilateral relations to a new direction.

     

    PM Wickremesinghe conveyed greetings and best wishes of Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena to Vietnamese President and explained how the two parties have got together to develop the country.

     

    Here it was emphasized that the internal stability is one of the main factors of the economic and social development of a country. They also discussed to strengthen the relationship between many sectors and establish people to people relations.

     

    It was emphasized that during the next two decades Asian regional Countries should be strengthened economically. Therefore, in this back ground strengthening trade and economic relationships was stressed. Both parties were of the view that plans should be made targeting not only the western market but the Asian market.

     

    PM Wickremesinghe also explained the program being taken by Sri Lanka to protect the peace and security in the Indian Ocean region. He said that Sri Lanka is planning to have a conference with the participation of all countries using the Indian Ocean for sea transportation to prepare a Code of Ethics.

     

    The President Quang said that he would invite his Sri Lankan counterpart for an official visit to Vietnam.
