    Ramaphosa calls on President Rajapaksa Featured

    South African  Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa called on Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees on Monday (July 7) evening.

    Ramaphosa and the delegation who arrived in Colombo Yesterday on a two-day official visit  were received by Nimal Siripala De Silva, Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Management and Sajin De Vasss Gunawardane, member of Parliament at Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake.

     

    A discussion also took place between Sri Lankan Minister of External Affairs Prof. G.L. Peiris and the South African Deputy President Cyril Ramaposha last evening at Taj Samudra, Hotel in Colombo.

     

    Ramaphosa, who has been appointed as South African President Jacob Zuma's Special Envoy in Sri Lanka.


    During the visit Ramaphosa is scheduled to hold talks with government ministers and members of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA). He is also expected to meet Government Ministers, the Opposition Leader and to visit Jaffna.

     

    President Jacob Zuma appointed Ramaphosa as special envoy to Sri Lanka – as well as to South Sudan – in February. This was his first visit to Sri Lanka since being appointed special envoy.  Ramaphosa a South African politician, businessman, activist, and trade union leader was elected as Deputy President of the African National Congress (ANC) at the ANC National Conference in Mangaung in December 2012.
