He said that the Good Governance government established under the leadership of President Maithripala Sirisena had worked for the national harmony of the country so far and each and every citizen should be proud about their own religion while being proud about the Sri Lankan identity.
He made these remarks addressing a passing out ceremony held on Sunday at the Police Training Center, Kalutara.
Present government led by President Maithripala Sirisena has identified a number of shortcomings pertaining to the Police service and has acted to solve them. One of them is recruiting new Tamil officers to the Sri Lanka Police. PM explained that by recruiting these Tamil officers the Police would be able to continue their duties more efficiently without language difficulties. Government has also decided to ease the lack of women police officers, he added.
“It is our objective to establish police service which gives priority for the ability and talent of officers. The foremost duty of the Police is implementing the law. The police will be developed as a civil service which secures the law and order of the country. Government expects to make the Sri Lanka Police the best police in Asia. A police service which is suitable for the twenty first century has to be established in Sri Lanka. I’ve given necessary instruction to the Minister of Law and Order, and IGP. ”
