The President said so at a special meeting on regulating of archives and documentation, held on Thusrday (Nov. 17) at the Presidential Secretariat.
The attention was paid on the importance of the preservation of more than hundred years old records with valuable historical information, with use of modern technology. The developing of archives departments, human resources and infrastructure facilities as a solution to the inadequacies and shortfalls in the current archive services were discussed at the meeting.
The President instructed the minister to present a cabinet paper on protecting of old documentations. He also directed the officials to formulate a proper program to preserve important information related to economic, political, cultural, social and educational fields. He further instructed them to gain specialist knowledge to educate the officials and formulate a program to educate the public.
Ministers Wajira Abeywardena, Ranjith Maddumabandara, S. B. Navinna, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam and the Director of the Department of National Archives Dr. Saroja Veththasinghe also participated in this discussion.
