SC rejected petitions against two bills

    March 09, 2016

The petitions filed against the two bills “Budgetary Relief Allowance of Workers” and “National Minimum Wage of Workers” have been rejected by the Supreme Court in par with Article 121(1) of the Constitution.

According to the determination moved at the Parliament yesterday, the Supreme Court has no jurisdiction to proceed further with these petitions, because of the petitioners have failed to fulfill the requirement that not less than three fourth of the members of the petitioners’ union are Citizens of Sri Lanka.

Budgetary Relief Allowance of Workers Bill was moved in the Parliament to provide for the payment of a Budgetary Relief Allowance by employers to workers and the National Minimum Wage of Workers Bill was moved to provide for the payment of National Minimum Wage by employers to workers and for matters regarding that.
