President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed the Chairmen of the Provincial Road Passenger Transport Authorities on this regard.
The President said the Government's special attention has been directed to this corrupt activity continuing for some time now. He said the Government, which came to power to eliminate frauds, corruption, irregularities and mal-practices, is ready to take stern actions with regard to this situation.
He was addressing a special discussion on matters relating to the transport sector held at the Presidential Secretariat. Provincial Transport Ministers representing all nine provinces took part in the meeting and the matters pertaining to those provinces were discussed at length.
The President further said the new Government would not hesitate to intervene to prevent corruption and fraud in the transport sector.
The President said all should commit under one policy to resolve the prevailing matters in the transport sector. Matters pertaining to integrated time table, the delays of private buses, the space problem in Colombo to park the bases and the problems faced by the staff of Provincial Road Passenger Transport Authorities were discussed at the meeting. Transport Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and Ministry Secretary Nihal Somaweera also participated.
