He says the people in some areas did not receive the benefits of the development in the past due to some policies followed by the previous government.
"The current government pays a prominent attention take the underdeveloped areas towards development by ending the dissimilarities in sharing of the benefits of the development occurred throughout a decade," the President said.
Participating in ceremony held Sunday (28) to vest the new Cardiac Unit built in the General Hospital Polonnaruwa with people, the President said that he would strengthen all District and Divisional Hospitals by providing them the required facilities.
"The government's objective is to share the benefits of the development with all provinces in the island and thereby end the era when the people had to come to Colombo for better health services and education," he said.
He further said that the government has paid special attention on the human resource development by filling the vacancies from the posts of specialists to the posts in the sections of nursing, supplement and technical.
The new Cardiac Unit which consists of 48 beds, is equipped with modern facilities.
The President also declared open the canteen and the waiting room built at a cost of Rs. 47 million in the hospital with modern facilities. He laid the foundation stone for an Accident Care Unit which is expected to be built at a cost of Rs. 465 million.
The General Hospital in Polonnaruwa successfully performed its first kidney transplant operation on February 08. The President extended his appreciation to the team of the specialist doctors and the staff those who performed the operation.
Chief Minister of North-Central Province Peshala Jayaratne, Members of Parliament Siripala Gamlath and Nalaka Kolonne, Director General of Health Services Doctor Palitha Mahipala and the Director of the Polonnaruwa General Hospital Doctor Indika Sampath Kumara also participated in this occasion.
