The government planned to erect nine monumental Stupas in each province of the country in appreciation of the noble service rendered by the armed forces and Police to defeat terrorism and bring lasting peace to the country.
As the first phase of the project, construction of the first Stupa in the ancient city of Anuradapura is underway on the directions of Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The President thereafter inaugurated the exposition of the Sacred Hair Relics parallel to the religious ceremony.
Members of the Maha Sangha including Chief Incumbent of the Atamasthana the Ven. Pallegama Sirinivasa Nayake Thera, Chief Incumbent of Ruwanweliseya Ven.Pallegama Hemarathana Nayake Thera, Chancellor of the Kelaniya University the Ven. Welamitiyawe Kusaladhamma Thera, many Parliamentarians, Presidential Chief of Staff Gamini Senarath as well as a large number of devotees attended the religious ceremony.
