    More focus on renewable energy generation – President

    President Maithripala Sirisena says the contribution of the state sector as well as private sector in the programs to achieve the progress in the field of renewable energy, is essential.

    He pointed out that Sri Lanka a great potential to generate renewable energy, given abundance of natural resources in the country. “It is essential to encourage and inspire the investors for this purpose”, the President said.

     

    The President was addressing the gathering of the Sri Lanka National Energy Efficiency Award Ceremony – 2015 held yesterday (Nov. 23) at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH).

     

    President Sirisena stated that, for continuous growth, speedy and prudent action in the field of energy is important. “We should save the huge amount of money spent for importing energy”, he said.

     

    President Sirisena further pointed out the need of appointing responsible officers to manage the use of electricity in private sector as well as public sector institutions.

     

    The President presented awards to State and Private institutions for their contribution to energy conservation in the country.

     

    He also presented honorary awards to individuals who have made significant contributions to sustainable energy within their professional practice.

     

    Minister of Power and Renewable Energy -Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Deputy Minister Ajith P. Perera, Secretary to the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy- Dr. B.M.S Batagoda, J.B.K Wickramasinghe – President of Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority were among the distinguished participants in the event.
