    Govt. will make required political, economic & social transformations in the country – President Featured

    President Maithripala Sirisena says he would make the required political, economic and social transformations in the country.

    He made these remarks at a ceremony held yesterday (Nov. 21) to west the new post office complex, bus stand and public market, built in Imaduwa, with people, under the program to develop Imaduwa Town.

     

    “Even as a ten months old government we have already taken action to make plenty of political changes required by the country. Accordingly, we have established nine commissions to make those changes a reality. We have appointed members for that through the Constitutional Council without considering any political friendship or influence”, the President said.

     

    “These are not changes which make your stomach enjoy, but make our country happy. We also will take instant actions when there are possibilities for changes to make your stomach happy”, he further stated.

     

    “We made a price control of essential food items to prevent increase of the cost of living. Though the prices of food items increased due to climate and weather conditions, the government is ready to give relief to the people whenever possible”, the President said.

     

    President Sirisena pointed out that many decisions have been taken through budget – 2016for long term effects to take the country forward as a government. He pointed out the government’s aim is to build the country economically and socially through long term investments.

     

    He stated the people of this country gave a decision on the 17th of last August to take this country forward with unity of the two main political parties. “We should build up a political culture with the features of developed society by ending political hatred which shows the traits of undeveloped society”, he said.

     

    The President said the government would implement a comprehensive program under a new national plan for town development in the areas of Municipal Councils and rural areas. He recalled that a single ministry has been established under the new government on that regard.

     

    President Sirisena presented the grants of compensation for those who lost their lands due to the development activities in Imaduwa Town.

     

    Ministers Patali Champika Ranawaka, Chandima Weerakkodi, Fizar Mustafa, M. H. Abdul Haleem, Deputy Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Governor of the Southern Province Hemakumara Nanayakkara and the Chief Minister Shan Wijayalal de Silva also participated in this occasion.
