    President worships Mahaweli Maha Seya

    President Maithripala Sirisena worshipped Mahaweli Maha Seya in Kothmale Sunday (Oct. 11), thus becoming the first Head of State to visit this Buddhist monument.

    He visited the sacred place, after participating in the ‘Vana Ropa’ National Tree Planting Ceremony held today in Kothmale.

     

    The President who arrived in the temple was warmly welcomed by the students of the Dhamma School of the temple. He had cordial discussions with the children and looked into the well-being of the Chief Incumbent Ven. Thispane Jinananda Thero.

     

    President Sirisena observed the constructions being carried out in the temple premises. He also made an observation tour to the Kothmale Reservoir.

     

    Ministers Naveen Dissanayake, Vijith Vijayamuni Soysa and Deputy Minister Anuradha Jayaratne also participated in this occasion.

     

    The President yesterday attended in religious activities in Dimbulagala Aranya Senasana. He also looked into the well-being of the Chief Incumbent Ven. Millane Siriyalankara Thero.
