We should prepare the new generation to suit global job market - President Featured

    June 03, 2014

We should prepare the new generation to suit the global job market. That is the reason of forming a national vocational training centre, said Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The President was addressing the inauguration ceremony of the national project to build 250 Mahindodaya Technical faculties, under thousand Mahindodaya schools program  at Lumbini Vidyalaya on Monday (June 2).

The President further said that it has helped to open the path to university selection through vocational training. Therefore it is possible to achieve both professional and academic qualifications. We took necessary action to give special opportunities out of the current education and examination system, the President added.

President Rajapaksa while recalling that the current Government corrected historic mistakes in education said the Government will provide every facility for the education of the children and fulfill the responsibility to create an education system which suits the country and the nation.

Even in 1970s we had only one school of A Grade. Luckily, northern children had 37 schools. We saw this difference in history. There were much schools and facilities for Colombo. But the villages didn’t have them.  Therefore, the children came to Colombo from the village. There is a competition to join in schools in Colombo. But, after we introduced these Mahindodaya technical labs there is a competition to come to these schools, the President said.

It is our duty to give an education to everyone said the President and urged the teachers and the parents not decide the subjects what they should do but to give the freedom to the children to select what they want to learn. (KH/SI)
