The former commander of the navy was appointed to this post in August by President Maithripala Sirisena.
Admiral (Retd) Perera retired as the 19th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy after an unblemished service of 37 years. He joined the navy as an Officer Cadet in 1978. He has received a number of awards and medals including the Rana Wickrama Padakkama for gallantry during his long career in the navy.
