Upon arrival, the ship’s crew extended technical assistance, and since the condition of the trawlers were beyond repairs, they were towed safely to Hambantota fishery harbour amidst rough sea conditions on 30th August 2015.
Sri Lanka Navy promptly responding to a request made by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, dispatched Naval Ship “Udara” from the port of Galle to rescue ten local fishermen onboard multi-day fishing trawlers “Manusath” and “Isuruputha 03” drifting 63 km (35 nautical miles) South East of Hambantota due to an engine failure.
