A No Tobacco Week has been declared from May 31 to June 6 by the Presidential Task Force on Drug Prevention to coincide with World No Tobacco Day which falls today. The national ceremony launching the No Tobacco Week will be held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at the BMICH Committee Room A on June 1 at 9 a.m.
The main events earmarked during the week includes the display of anti-smoking bill boards opposite main hospitals, awareness programmes for traders conducted by PHIs, implementation of anti-smoking legislation and divisional level anti-smoking drives.
