    October 11, 2024

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jordan participated in the 60th Annual Diplomatic Bazaar, held at the Al Hussein Youth City in Amman  last week. The bazaar was organized under the patronage of Princess Basma Bint Talal as a philanthropic programme, specifically to assist the Mabarrat Um Al Hussein Orphanage, which was established in 1958 by the late Queen Zein Al Sharaf.

The bazaar featured more than 70 stalls representing 36 Diplomatic Missions based in Amman. The stalls showcased a wide array of products in the fields of culture, fashion, food, and handicrafts.

The Embassy of Sri Lanka set up two stalls to display the country’s rich cultural heritage through a variety of unique products. One stall displayed traditional handicrafts, coconut-based products, spices, batik, rush and reed products, Ceylon tea, Siddhalepa Ayurveda products, and Sri Lankan biscuits, cookies, soft drinks, organic dried vegetables, kithul treacle, etc. A vibrant display of Sri Lankan cuisine, with live demonstrations of the preparation of kottu and hoppers, was featured in the other stall. The two Sri Lankan stalls attracted many visitors who were served with flavoured Ceylon tea.

Princess Basma, accompanied by Ambassadors and representatives of Diplomatic Missions, toured the bazaar. While visiting the Sri Lankan stalls, she appreciated the Mission’s participation in the bazaar and admired Sri Lankan traditional products.

The bazaar, which is an annual event conducted in Jordan, reflects on the roles of collective effort, and cultural exchange in facilitating charitable and humanitarian programmes. Its content embodies the heritage and cultural diversity of the participating countries.
