Ambassador Dr. Kohona in his address said that during the 4th CIIE, Sri Lanka in addition to its traditional exports, will also be introducing a few new products such as confectionery to the Chinese market. He further said that Sri Lanka hopes that the CIIE would provide an effective launching platform to narrow down the trade imbalance between Sri Lanka and China. Today China is the world’s biggest consumer market.
He highlighted the Sri Lanka star sapphire cluster which will be a main exhibit at the gem and jewellery sector of the Expo.
Ambassador Dr. Kohona invited the Chinese media to provide the maximum publicity to Sri Lanka’s participation at the 4th CIIE. Sri Lanka products would be live streamed at the Expo. Live streaming is the most effective marketing tool in China today.
Before the commencement of the formal event, videos of Sri Lanka tourism, Ceylon Tea and investment opportunities were screened.
Over 25 print and electronic media personnel attended the briefing. The giant Caissa Travel Group (among the top five in China), was also represented. The Caissa Travel Group made a firm commitment to the Ambassador to make its best efforts to send One Million tourists to Sri Lanka when travel restrictions were lifted.
