The audience recalled the triumphs gained by Diplomatic Relations established during Hon. Prime Minister’s tenure as President. Foresighted decision taken by the President to establish a Sri Lankan Consulate General in Milan has drastically increased efficiency in providing consular services.
Owing to popular request, the Prime Minister instructed Foreign Minister Hon. (Prof) G.L Peiris to discuss with the Italian Government to check the possibility of keeping the existing Italian 20-year-service pension scheme active even if the beneficiary returned to Sri Lanka for good.
The Prime Minister, who is in Italy to join the G20 Interfaith Forum, is scheduled to attend several diplomatic meetings shortly.
Foreign Minister Hon. (Prof) G.L. Peiris and Acting Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Italy Mr. Sisira Seneviratne were also present at the gathering.
