Vaccinated individuals have a greater responsibility to maintain health care practices - Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama

    May 20, 2021

Senior Consultant Physician at the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH), Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama said that all the individuals who have been vaccinated for Covid-19 virus have a greater responsibility in adhering to health care practices.

He explained that even a person who has been vaccinated has a tendency to develop the disease, and since it can be transmitted from one person to another, everyone has to continue to follow health care practices even after receiving the vaccine.

He stated this during a special discussion held (19) at the National Development Media Center titled "Scientific analysis on the spread of Covid-19".

Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama urged the public to maintain social distance, wear face masks, wash hands and strictly follow other healthcare practices in order to minimize the spread of the virus.

He asked pregnant mothers, people over 60, those with chronic diseases and their family members to ensure their health and safety as these individuals are at a high risk.

Moreover, he assured that the breastfeeding mothers can get the vaccine and that breastfeeding should not be stopped before and after the vaccination.

The senior doctor further stated that in order to fight against the virus, regular exercise is important to have strong immunity and smokers should avoid smoking without risking their lives.

He also instructed the public to wear a N95 mask, which is highly recommended or else a surgical mask with a cloth mask (wearing the surgical mask first and then the cloth mask on top of it).
