Hon. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa instructed several government agencies under the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing to expedite the provision of infrastructure facilities in hospitals including buildings required to increase the treatment capacity of patients. On the instructions of the Prime Minister, the construction work was expedited recently under the supervision of State Minister of Rural Housing and Construction & Building Material Industries, Indika Anuruddha.
Under this, the State Minister inspected the construction work of the 10-storey building complex which is being constructed at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital (Kalubowila Hospital) and instructed to complete it promptly.
The Ministry of Health is constructing this 10-storey building at a cost of Rs. 743 million.
The new building will have 07 operating theaters, 05 laboratories, 02 outpatient units and a residential hospital ward complex called Millennium. Facilities at the new building are being set up to treat a large number of patients.
