The tank that provides water to more than 96 acres of paddy fields and a large patch of vegetable cultivations had water filled to the brim at the time the piercing had reportedly occurred. Panic-stricken civilians had immediately reached the 563 Brigade in close vicinity seeking assistance to mend the repairs.

On being informed, District Secretary for Vavuniya, Mr Saman Bandulasena provided necessary transport and soil needed for the mending to the Army troops, along with the services of respective Irrigation Department officials.

Under the close guidance of Major General Hemantha Bandara, Commander, SF -Wanni and Major General Nandana Dunuwila, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 56 Division, Brigadier Panduka Perera, Commander, 563 Brigade and Major N.P.S.K Nilmalgoda, Commanding Officer, 21 SLSR personally visited the affected location and joined hands with their troops, engaged in urgent repairs.

Civilians in the area spoke to soldiers and commended their quick work and praised the Army for its all time readiness for the benefit of civilians.
