    July 10, 2020

Marking another first in the Sri Lankan history, Sri Lanka Navy ( 09th July ) launched the Maritime Doctrine of Sri Lanka (MDSL) at the Navy Headquarters, under the auspices of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva.

Fulfilling another long-felt need which has gone unsolved for a prolonged period, the Navy went on to compile this capstone publication as a guide to understanding the unique nature of the SLN’s maritime power and the way in which it can be applied in pursuit of the national interests.

At the launch of the first-ever Maritime Doctrine of Sri Lanka Commander of the Navy highlighted how the MDSL would shape the broad contours of employment of maritime power and how the Navy goes about nurturing a stable environment at sea. Moreover, this will become a vital common frame of reference to rest of the interested partners across the military.

The Chief of Staff of the Navy, Director Generals and a host of senior officers from the Naval Headquarters were also present on this momentous occasion. A copy of the MDSL was also officially presented over to Defence Secretary Major General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne by Commander of the Navy at the Ministry of Defence.
