The high-level defence delegation, including acting Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva, who is the Head of the National Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak, Sri Lanka Navy Commander Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, Sri Lanka Air Force Commander Air Marshal Sumangala Dias, acting Inspector General of Police, C. D. Wickramaratne, Security Forces Commanders of Jaffna, Mullaittivu and Kilinochchi, Division Commanders, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police for North, Deputy Inspector General of Police for North and a few more officials, accompanied the Defence Secretary in his visit to Jaffna.
The delegation flew from Colombo was welcomed by Jaffna Security Forces, Commander Maj. Gen. Ruwan Wanigasooriya at Palaly airport.
The officers, representing the Tri-Forces and the Police in the North, has briefed the Defence Secretary on the ground situation with regard to present security situation, the military’s role in supporting the health authorities to mitigate coronavirus outbreak, drug menace and drug trafficking, curbing robberies and crimes in the North.
Maj. Gen. Gunaratne has given instructions to the Tri-Forces and the Police to take measures to strengthen security to maintain law and order in Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaithivu and Vauniya.
