SL Navy has activated a number of preventive measures to control the spread of the coronavirus in the country and further, under the directives of Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, several more programmes are being implemented in view of providing necessary facilities for the doctors and the medical staffs who are extending committed service for infected patients even ignoring their threat of life.
Accordingly, SL Navy provided its full technological and labour assistance for construction of a two-storey building to establish CT Scanning Division, after Ministry of Health decided to supply a CT scanner which was a long felt requirement of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases-a place where tremendous commendable service is fulfilled for the patients infected with coronavirus. The Navy commenced the construction of the building on 10th April 2020 and managed to hand over the completed building within a short period of about 50 days on 29thMay 2020 to the hospital staff for fitting medical equipment.
The CT Scanning Division established with fitting the CT Scanner in this new building was officially handed over to the hospital on 04th June 2020 by Hon.Minister of Women and Child Affairs and Social Security and Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Mrs. Pavithra Wanniarachchi in the presence of senior officials of health sector and the Chief of Staff of the Navy. The officials and medical staff of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases and senior officers of SL Navy were also present on the occasion.
The Minister addressing the gathering commended and paid her tribute for the contribution of the Tri Forces in the campaign of arresting coronavirus in the country and this social responsibility work carried out by the Navy was appreciated by all the staffs of health sector who attended the occasion.
