He said that the same allegations were levelled against the government during the construction of the Mahinda Rajapaksa Vidyalaya, but today students are excelling in their studies at this school.

Minister Gunawardena also noted that the government has a clear strategy to win all challenges before them, adding that the government is in the process of winning the Covid-19 challenge and forging ahead in its development drive. He also added that the government will construct the international cricket stadium in Diyagama,  Homagama and also establish a special sports university where athletes could obtain their degrees and even doctorates.

He said that 26 acres of land has been allocated for the project from the Mahinda Rajapaksa sports stadium and the ICC and SLC will make the investment.In the first stage 40,000 seating capacity will be constructed with another 60,000 seats being added in the second stage complete with parking and other facilities.

The whole project is estimated to cost $ 30 million and will take around three years to be completed.According to the minister the golden era of development was experienced during the Rajapaksa regime between 2010 to 2014, but the economy collapsed after 2015, However, he added that with the experiences gained from the Coronavirus pandemic, measures have been implemented to enforce the Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s plans for a prosperous Sri Lanka and take the country towards a new era.
