Many issues in the country were also discussed during this meeting. Accordingly, the supplying of essential foods, manufacturing, storing and distribution of rice and ensuring food security was extensively discussed at this meeting and the operations and it had been decided to declare the services of all rice mills as essential service for COVID-19 quarantine programme.
The President and Prime Minister had also focussed their attention on the issues affecting the fishing communities and the Prime Minister had issued instructions to the Finance Ministry Secretary to discuss this matter immediately with the Fisheries Ministry and find solutions to the problems faced by the fishermen.
The issues pertaining to essential food distribution, medicines distribution and the provision of essential food and other essentials to those stranded and unable to return to their homes due to the curfew were also discussed.
The Head of the Presidential Task Force for Essential Services Basil Rajapaksa, Minister Chamal Rajapaksa, Wimal Weerawansa, Dinesh Gunawardena, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Dayasiri Jayasekara, Piyal Nishantha, Shehan Semasinghe, Kanchana Wijesekara and several others participated in this meeting.
