The new well-equipped kitchen complex in close proximity to the Parliament square once completed is able to provide cooked meals to some 4000 plus Other Ranks serving in the Army HQ. Currently, those meals are cooked at Narahenpita, and distributed through the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) cafeteria at the HQ at subsidized rates.
Lieutenant General Silva, taking the new initiative in this regard instructed troops of the 14 Corps of Engineer Service (CES) Regiment to expedite and complete the construction before the end of April, this year in order to ensure all Other Ranks inside the HQ are received hot meals of high quality well in time during their meal breaks.
During the visit, Lieutenant General Silva had a close look at the construction plan, evaluated its feasibility aspects and spoke to the Commanding Officer, 14 CES and the troops at work. Major General Prasanna Chandrasekera, Master General Ordnance, Brig Brigadier Prashantha Wimalasena Director Management and Maintenance and a few other Officers were present during the Commander’s visit to the location.
