He said this during the media briefing held at the Government Information Department recently. The minister noted that all children from kindergarten to university are at home these days due to the prevailing situation and disengaged with their studies. Therefore, he noted that the Media have a great responsibility in ensuring they do not waste their time at home and away from their studies.

Appreciating the efforts taken by some media organisations to broadcast educational programmes for the benefit of students, the minister said that measures should be taken in the future to broadcast educational programmes prepared by the National Education Institute and programmes presented through the Education Ministry “E-Thaksalawa” web site.

The Minister also urged all media institutions to broadcast any structured learning programmes during this period. He also urged all parents to structure the time spent by their children at home in a productive manner without letting it go to waste.
