Police arrest 9 persons who violated curfew – essential services can function without curfew permits

    March 21, 2020

The police had arrested nine (09) persons who had violated the curfew which was imposed island-wide since yesterday, said DIG Ajith Rohana.

He noted that it was vital that the public adheres to the curfew, pointing out that if not, the purpose in imposing it is lost. He also noted that there was no requirement for curfew passes for essential services related movements. They are medical and health services, water, electricity services, media services, food and medicine related services, immigration

and emigration services, ports and airport services, food production services, customs, fuel services, and volunteer organization personnel.

For essential service movement, the person intending to travel during curfew hours should produce clear proof to the police officers on duty at checkpoints regarding the services they are involved in, DIG Ajith Rohana said issuing a statement this morning (21).
