This event under the theme “Courageous Woman – Strong Country” will see the participation of over 1000 females. Concurrent to the Women’s Day celebrations over 75 stalls comprising of products by female entrepreneurs will be held on March 07 and 08 near the Ratnapura Seevali Grounds.
During the celebrations on Women’s Day, there will be many events including the selection of the best women’s organisation and the unveiling of the online education platform for the education of electronic networking among many other programmes.In view of the International Women’s Day, a mobile service programme named “Podu-jana Sarani” was also organised covering the districts of Ratnapura, Monaragala and Kegalle. In addition, several other programmes targeting women and children were also held covering 17 divisional Secretariats. Another programme on educating bus drivers, conductors and bus commuters in Embilipitiya was also initiated themed “Sundara Gamanak” (pleasant journey) was organised from February focussing on harassment faced by women when using public transport. Programmes were also launched for families facing domestic violence and social protection measures were taken to prevent women from having to face such situations.
