    Heat Index to reach extreme caution level today

    The Natural Hazards Early Warning Center issued a Heat Index Adversary valid for today (02), warning that the Heat Index will reach an extremely cautionary level at some places in North-Western, Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern Provinces and in Monaragala district.

    The caution level records temperatures ranging between 32-41 Celsius degrees.

    The Department of Meteorology warns that heat cramps and heat exhaustion are possible during the day, while continuing such activity could result in heatstroke. The Department of Meteorology advises the public to avoid outdoor activities and to stay hydrated in order to avoid fatigue and heat cramps.

    Further, the Department requests the general public to follow these actions at given locations;

    Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.

    Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.

    Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.

    Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.

    Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.
