The Minister noting that about 2000 students had given up university education due to ragging said the government has informed the University grants Commission to work out a program to provide justice for the aggrieved students. The Minister said Gotabhaya Rajapaksa is the only presidential candidate who has pledged to expand the opportunities for university entrance.
Minister Bandula Gunawardena said a national program to provide higher education opportunities for all these people within a span of 60 days. President Rajapaksa recently said that 2000 students who pass their advanced level examination do not enter state universities because of ragging. He noted that this loss cannot be continued and the system has to be changed.According to the University Grants Commission, due to ragging incidents in 2017 and 2018, out of the registered university students 1989 had dropped out,
