Minister Pathirana said fertilizer will be made available at a concessionary price under the manifesto of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The Government will take action to reduce the use of chemical based artificial fertilizer gradually and promote the use of organic fertilizer in the country. Now the dialogue has already begun and a methodical system will be set up soon, he said.Minister Pathirana pointed out that those arrangements will assist to make organic agriculture a profitable business in Sri Lanka while protecting the health of the people.
Cabinet approval has been granted to a proposal presented by Lands and Land Development, Environment and Wildlife Resources Minister S.M.Chandrasena to investigate all complaints received from the public on illegal sand mining and related issues which have had a negative impact on the environment. This will be done with the assistance of the armed forces. The process of issuing licences for sand mining will be streamlined. The Government requests the public to provide information on all possible instances of environmental destruction due to sand mining, the Minister added.
