    UK assures assistance for prison, legal reforms

    British High Commissioner Sarah Hulton had offered UK assistance to take forward prison and legal reforms in Sri Lanka, the Justice Ministry said in a press release.The British High Commissioner called on Justice and Human Rights Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva on Saturday. The Minister had briefed the High Commissioner on efforts being taken by the new Government on prison and legal reforms.


    The High Commissioner, commending the efforts, had agreed to provide technical assistance in those regards and drafting legislation. The discussions had also focused on human rights and accountability.The Minister had briefed the British High Commissioner that the policy of the new Government is to ensure equal justice for all communities and that the Government serves all communities irrespective of their political views.
