    Police to use body cam to identify election law violators

    Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ruwan Gunasekara says the Police will use small video cameras to observe and capture videos of law violations or any illegal activities during the presidential election on November 16. "Sri Lanka Police have received 71 cameras and 321 jackets," SSP Gunasekara told a news conference yesterday (Nov 4).

    He especially noted that the election monitoring groups- People's Actions for Free and Fair Elections and Centre for Monitoring Election Violence have donated the video cameras and the jackets to the police.The Spokesman said after the presidential election, the police will use the cameras for criminal investigations and to capture videos of unlawful protests to produce them as evidence in the court.

    "This is not something we are doing in secrecy. That's is why we are publicizing through media," the spokesman added.The Police Media Spokesman also briefed about the complaints of election law violations in the run up to the election on November 16. He said as of today the Police have received more than 100 election-related complaints and 64 incidents of election law violations. In connection with the complaints, the police have arrested 44 suspects.
