The Elections Commission (EC) will set up 45,000 polling booths for voters countrywide for the Presidential Election 2019 on November 16.EC Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya has confirmed these facts, said W.M. Balasooriya , Kurunegala senior Director of Education, speaking at a meeting of school principals and teachers who are to serve on election duty in the Kurunegala and Puttalam districts yesterday.
During previous elections, only 35,000 polling booths were set up. The number of polling centres this time would be 12,845. The Elections Commission has decided to increase the number of polling booths as the ballot paper this time is very long, since there are 35 candidates contesting the Presidential Election. The length of this ballot paper is 26 inches. One polling booth will be set up for every 400 voters this time; on previous occasions, one polling booth was set up for every 800 voters.
