Four complaints have been received to the Information Technology Society of Sri Lanka (ITSSL) in connection with sharing marked postal ballot papers on social media.The postal voting of the presidential election commenced on October 31 and will be held on November 1 as well.Chairman of the ITSSL, Rajiv Yasiru Kuruwitage said that the Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya earlier had said that the Commission would take severe action against public officials who shared photographs of the marked ballot papers on social media.According to the Elections Commissioner, such officials could be sentenced to three years in prison.“We, as the Information Technology Society Sri Lanka, emphasise that it is an offence to share photos of marked postal ballot papers on any social media platform,” Kuruwitage said.
