    Lankan Prez poll to be a model for study

    In addition to the usual election monitor teams, several election administrators from SAARC countries are expected to be here to observe the holding of Presidential Election 2019, National Election Commission chairman Mahinda Deshapriya disclosed yesterday.Election monitoring teams from India, Indonesia, Australia, South Africa and the Maldives will act as official observers of the Election Commission in the upcoming Presidential Election, Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya announced at yesterday’s press conference held by the National Elections Commission at the Elections Secretariat, Rajagiriya.

    “In addition, we have decided to invite middle level officers of the Election Commissions in the South Asian countries for a study tour.Representatives from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Myanmar, Philippines, Indonesia Australia and South Korea will take part in the study tour,” he said.
    Deshapriya said election monitors from the Commonwealth and the European Union have also been invited to observe the ‘Presidential Election 2019’. Deshapriya said the foreign election monitors are expected in the country by November 11.He said the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) and Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV) would act as local election monitors.
