The donation includes high quality Plus moist wound dressing, one of the newest and innovative wound dressing developed with Japanese technology by Zuiko Medical Corporation in Japan, on new medical therapy concept of moist healing.“This can help patients protect their wounds and facilitate the healing process which is an essential part of recovery. Many patients suffer from amputation, infections and other illnesses caused by wounds that are not dressed properly and, in some instances, this even lead to death due to lack of appropriate and high-quality wound dressing,” said Dr. Mahanama Gunesekera, Consultant Surgeon of the National Hospital in Colombo and the Immediate Past President of the College of Surgeons.
Dr. Gunesekera said that 50% of inpatient wounds are chronic wounds that require special dressing and that the health sector spends almost 10% of its funds on wound healing and quality wound dressing which is very expensive.
The Rotary Club of Colombo Centennial has been supporting communities and volunteering to help the recovery of victims of numerous natural and man-made disasters.
