    5 Mn saplings planted in Mahaweli under the National “Ruk Ropana” Program Featured

    A program for planting five million saplings in the Mahaweli region under the National “Ruk Ropana “program will be initiated.As the minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, under the guidance of President Maithripala Sirisena this programs is being initiated and its objective is to help the program implemented to increase the forest density of the country.

    Under this programme five 50 lacks of saplings will be planted per region, and in 10 Mahaweli regions five million plants will be planted. The saplings will include medicinal herbs and food corps plants. The required saplings will be produced within the regions and in Kotmale Nawadewwa Mahaweli Central plant house has already produced 75,000 plants.

    As a prominent step taken towards accomplishing sustainable development objectives, to protect the current forest cover, and to increase the 29% forest density to 32% under the guidance of President Maithripala Sirisena a number of programs are conducted Island wide.
