    More land released in Wanni

    In a gesture of goodwill, the Sri Lanka Army has once again released a total of 56.8 acres of land in the general area of Mundimurippu jungle on Wednesday (14 November). According to Army media, the two blocks of land (37.1 acres and 19.7 acres) had earlier been used for security purposes by 20 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) troops of the Security Forces Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W).

    The official documents pertaining to the land release was handed over to the District Secretary of Mullaithivu, Ms. R Kethishwaran by the Commanding Officer 20 SLSR, Major Induka Wickramasinghe, on behalf of the Wanni Commander at the Mullaittivu District Secretariat.

    Previously, in September (2018), Security Forces in Jaffna handed back 4.4. acres of land in Jaffna to the original owners. In June this year (2018), the Army also returned 120 acres of land in Thelippalai, Karachchi and Maritimepattu areas in the Northern Province. The official documents relating to these lands were presented by the President Maithripala Sirisena, during a visit to Kilinochchi.
