The Minister said that only the President has the power to remove or appoint a Prime Minister. Accordingly, the President will obtain legal advice to take the next step, he added.The Speaker yesterday announced that a copy of the no-confidence motion and its decision along with the copy of the document with signatures of 122 parliamentarians declaring that the appointment of the Prime Minister and the cabinet by the President was against the Constitution will be sent to the President to take the next constitutional step.
Earlier yesterday, the parliament passed a no-confidence motion against the President-appointed Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and his UPFA-led cabinet.
