New IR Act to ease the burden on people Featured

    August 23, 2017

The indirect taxes would be reduced from 80 to 60 percent when the new Inland Revenue Act comes into force, thereby reducing the burden on the public, Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Dr. Rajitha Senaratna said today (23rd Aug.).

Speaking at the weekly cabinet press briefing today at the Department of Government Information he said that once the Act comes into force it will be a must for all people eligible to pay taxes including the ministers.

“Now some people explain situations and get a waiver from the Inland Revenue Department but with the new system it will not be possible”, he added.

The Inland Revenue Act was last amended in 2006.
