    Naval troops take preventive action and clean waterways

    Sri Lanka Navy has taken the initiative to clean several canals in vulnerable parts of the Colombo suburbs in order to reduce the risk of flooding during the rainy season.

    According to Navy media, Naval troops are involved in cleaning waterways in several areas including Dalugama Junction, Old Kandy Road, Wanathamulla, Thalagapatha, Meegahawaththa, Peliyagoda, Wanawasala Railway Station and Dutugemunu Mawatha, Peliyagoda in Kelaniya and Beddagana canal located within the Kotte Municipal Council areas.

     

    Naval troops commenced this community welfare effort under the direction of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne.

     

    Naval troops are assisted by respective local council authorities and the Land Reclamation and Development Corporation.
